Birth Announcement Design Trends

August 28, 2020

When your child is born, you’ll no doubt want to share the good news with family and friends. Indeed, birth announcements are a popular way to celebrate a new baby and will be a keepsake you cherish forever.

Your birth announcement should feature a photo of your baby and relevant information, such as their full name, weight, height and birthdate. Of course, there is a range of different designs from which to choose, and to get you started, we have compiled a list of our favorite themes:

Illustrations

Soft, sweet illustrations work well on birth announcement cards. Have you decorated your nursery with a specific theme, such as baby animals, fairytales, hearts, travel, woodland or dinosaurs?

If the answer is “yes,” think about designing your announcements to complement the nursery décor. Stick to light colors and pastels to give your illustrations a timeless finish.

Stars and Moons

You may like to consider a night sky theme for your birth announcements. Nursery rhymes such as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” and “The Cow Jumped Over the Moon” have made stars, moons and clouds a much-loved choice. Whether it’s a black background with shiny gold stars, or white background with fluffy, pastel clouds and a simple moon, there is something to suit any photograph. If you have a summer baby, you may prefer a cheerful sunshine theme instead.

Black and White

Black and white photography is elegant and classic. Pair your grayscale baby photo with a sleek black and white design and beautiful, bold font. Alternatively, you can add a small splash of color to give your design a unique twist, or use a font with a bold monogrammed letter to add to the sophistication of the design. A black and white style will suit any décor, making it perfect for hanging on the fridge!

Simplicity

Sometimes it’s the simple things that are the best, and this can be true for birth announcements. The right photo with a strategically placed heading might be all you need. The words you choose can be cute, fun or sweet.

For example, “Our Little Son-Shine”, “I Have Arrived”, “Oh Baby”, or “Hello…My Name Is…” are all popular options. A crisp white background and smooth font will give your simple card a luxurious finish.

Family Photos

Those who already have children might like to include them on the birth announcement. Of course, when you have a baby, it’s a celebration for the whole family, and it can be a big life change for siblings. As such, photograph your little ones together, with the older child lovingly holding the baby.

For those experiencing the joys of parenthood for the first time, a photo of you with your new addition will be a lovely memento. You may even like to include the family pet!

Our Favorite Birth Announcement Design Trends

If you’re expecting or have recently had a baby, now is the time to plan your birth announcements. The design you choose will depend on your unique tastes. Who knows? It may even match your nursery.

Some of the most popular design trends right now include black and white photography, sweet illustrations, family photos, simplicity and the night sky. Remember, your announcement will be something to cherish forever, making it important that you find a design you truly love!
