It can be so difficult to manage stress when you don’t even have time to do the things that you HAVE to do, let alone somehow find time to meditate, practice mindfulness or go to a yoga class! However, if you take the time to manage your stress and look after yourself now, you will find that you end up more productive in the long run. Honest.
Get Organized
A lot of the reason we feel stressed is that we are juggling hundreds of thoughts at the same time. The simple act of writing down things we need to do as we realize that we need to do them takes them out of your mind and means that you don’t need to keep ruminating on them, plus writing things down means that you definitely won’t forget them.
Consider utilizing a productivity app like Todoist or Trello to help you organize your time, they will not only let you note everything down, but they’ll even remind you when you need to be doing something.
Be Brutal
For most of us, we THINK that we have to do a lot more than we actually have to. Take the time each week to write down all of the things that you need to do, and then cut the list down as much as you possibly can, based on what you actually have to do that week. You’ll be surprised how much you don’t need to do, and how much free time you can create for yourself.
Sleep
If you want to feel less stressed, you have to make sleep a priority. Sleep is a powerful stress reliever. If you stick to a regular sleep routine, you will find that you not only feel more rested but that your concentration improves, and your judgement is improved. Sleep is an important part of mood regulation too, so if you are finding that your moods are quite up, and down lack of sleep is likely the culprit.
Make Time to Do Something You Love
Life can’t be all about achieving things or looking after other people. Make some time every day, even if it’s only ten minutes, to do something that you love and that is just for you. Read your favorite book, play an instrument, dance like a lunatic to Madonna – just make sure you take time each day to enjoy your life.
Natural Remedies
More and more people are trying natural remedies to help them to alleviate stress. A popular choice is CBD oil, which some people find very helpful for managing stress. You can try a THC-free CBD Hemp Oil at theviolettacompany.com.
Alternatively, you could try aromatherapy, lavender scents, in particular, is effective as a stress-relieving tool.
Herbal Teas are also a great way to relax and unwind. A 2018 trial showed that chamomile might lower cortisol a small amount, and there is something to be said for the soothing effect of a warm drink.
Move Around
This is probably the most important one. By moving around, you are combatting the stress hormones that your body is releasing. The purpose of stress is to prepare you to fight or run, so if you don’t do either of those things, then all of the extra adrenaline stays in your body where it can give you the shakes or cause other unpleasant symptoms. By moving around, you burn off the adrenaline and release endorphins which contribute to happiness. Plus, you’ll be keeping yourself healthy!
You don’t have to commit to a gym class that you don’t have time for, just going for a walk around the block every so often will have a positive effect.
