3 Skin Treatments You Didn’t Know About

December 23, 2020

The skincare treatment market is rapidly expanding with new treatments, solutions, ideas and procedures being discovered and fine-tuned every single day. With such a growing market, there are constantly new products and treatments to try out. Here are three skin care treatments that are being used by top dermatologists at the moment that you might not have been aware of.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a skincare treatment used by many dermatologists and can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions. Microneedling involves using lots of tiny, sterile needles to puncture miniature holes into the skin. The physical trauma this causes to the skin means that your skin rejuvenates in a number of amazing ways – your skin starts to produce more collagen in order to revive your skin which is an essential protein that helps to keep your skin looking youthful. Microneedling can help with fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, any skin pigmentation issues, stretch marks and even conditions like rosacea and alopecia. It is a fairly new skincare practice and is used by many of the top models and celebrities to achieve glowing, even and flawless skin. If you fancy a skincare reset, then getting a microneedling treatment is certainly the way to go, so go ahead and treat yourself – you won’t regret it!

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments performed on the face by experienced dermatologists. They are typically used as a solution to aged and weathered skin, but can also be used to resurface skin with acne marks, stretch marks or any other kind of imperfection. Chemical peels are also a great way to treat colour damage to the skin, such as sun spots. Every chemical peel treatment will have varying strengths, so make sure that if you are considering getting this treatment you discuss the optimum formula and strength with your dermatologist. It is possible to buy chemical peels that you can do on yourself at home, but be wary of over doing it as too much exposure to these chemicals can cause damage to your skin, especially if it is already sensitive.

Blue Light Therapy for Acne

Blue light therapy can be used as a treatment for severe acne – it works by targeting the bacteria that causes the acne to first appear on the skin. This treatment, though often expensive, is fairly harmless and does not cause any side effects. Blue light treatment is often used on acne patients when a variety of prescription creams have had no effect. In contrast to some other skin treatments, blue light treatment for acne requires no down time afterwards, so you can step out of the clinic and go about your day as normal straight after the treatment!

If any of these three procedures have intrigued you, talk to your dermatologist for more information. Many of these treatments can be harsh on the skin, so make sure you give your skin plenty of downtime and don’t book too many abrasive treatments in a short amount of time! Otherwise, these treatments are a great way of resurfacing, rejuvenating and reviving tired, dull-looking skin, so go ahead and book your treatment today!
