Coworking 101: Coworking Spaces and the People Who Use Them

May 5, 2022

Coworking is a concept that describes a working situation in which a variety of working professionals from different areas of business share a workspace. The first coworking space dates back to 2005, and the idea of sharing space to work has taken off ever since. In fact, statistics show that there will be approximately 41,975 coworking spaces across the globe by 2024. Here is a short guide to coworking spaces and the people who use them.

The Coworking Culture

The coworking culture is full of innovative people who are open to collaborative work in a sustainable environment. The coworking community is filled with a diverse range of talented people who want to share resources and work under one roof. Coworking is not just about sharing a workspace. It is about connecting with like-minded individuals to achieve personal work goals together.

The Coworking Community

The coworking community is made up of working professionals from varied backgrounds. With a coworking space, you don’t need to sign a long-term contract which makes them ideal for growing businesses. As the operating and joining costs of flexible workspaces is minimal, start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises are naturally drawn to coworking spaces. In addition, freelancers and those working in the gig economy can also benefit from joining the coworking community as a virtual office with a fixed address can lend them credibility. In addition to the reduced costs, there is also a thriving networking scene within these communities which makes them great for forging partnerships and friendships. Finally, established organizations also hire coworking spaces for permanent employees with flexible contracts.

Coworking Spaces

All coworking spaces differ slightly depending on the provider. However, they all share the same concept. A well-equipped shared space should provide excellent facilities and amenities for workers, and some might even offer complimentary refreshments.

Hot Desking for Transient Working Professionals

Hot desking is a type of organizational workspace system that is ideal for transient working professionals. They can be hired on a short-term basis, depending on the individual’s needs. This system consists of a variety of professionals from diverse industries sharing one workstation at varying intervals throughout the day. This workstation has everything a worker might need and can be rented on an ad hoc basis. Hot desking can benefit people who need to be in a productive environment to work. Companies, such as The Brew, provide hot desking solutions, as well as other coworking solutions.

Rented Office Spaces for Privacy

Working professionals who require more privacy than hot desking can hire a private office space instead. Private office spaces are a good option for people who are working in one location for a while and would like a private space to concentrate on their work. These offices usually come equipped with an on-site reception and team who are there to provide office support, just like a regular office. Private office spaces are great for working professionals who hold face-to-face meetings regularly.
