Understanding Everything About Permanent Makeup

June 27, 2019

The beauty of makeup is that it can be anything you want it to be. You can wear makeup as a way to completely transform yourself, enhance your look, or just to simply make you feel special on a daily basis. But for some, makeup can be a hassle to apply and deal with. This is where permanent makeup can come in handy. Permanent makeup is a method meant to make you feel great from the minute you wake up to the minute you put your head on the pillow to go to bed.

It’s important to educate yourself on permanent makeup before you get any done. Here’s everything you should know about this cosmetic enhancement.

Do your research

As with anything else, you get what you pay for. You must do your research on the medspas you are considering before you decide on a place. It’s also recommended that you schedule a consultation appointment. Since everything is now done online, look at their reviews on social media and see if you can find before and after pictures to see what the quality of work looks like.

If you see the same pictures of permanent makeup being repeated over and over again, this could be a red flag that the medspa is using someone else’s pictures and their results will not be the same as shown. Always look for a watermark to ensure the pictures are authentic and belong to the specific medspa you are researching.

Know that touch ups aren’t common

Some budget permanent makeup providers offer touch ups within a year or so. While this may seem like a good idea, be wary. Cosmetic makeup is a permanent process, so your results are meant to last. If a provider is offering a touch up on top of your original price, this can signal that their products are not of top quality.

Microblading is not the same as permanent eyebrow makeup

A popular cosmetic procedure is microblading, but it’s important to note that this is not a permanent option. Instead, color pigment is applied to your eyebrows via a blade rather than a traditional tattoo needle. The pigment is only deposited into the first layer of skin, and will eventually fade within a couple of years. A tattoo, on the other hand, will penetrate to the second deepest layer of skin, which is permanent and will not go away anytime soon.

Sun exposure can fade your makeup

Your permanent makeup is similar to traditional tattoos in that proper daily care is needed to ensure longevity. One big culprit that is responsible for fading tattoos is the sun, so always take precautions such as wearing designer prescription sunglasses and sunscreen when you’re out in the sun. It’s also a good idea to stay away from regular use of harsh exfoliants and to keep your permanent makeup as moisturized as possible.

Your initial results will not last

So you’re sitting down in the chair, ready for your new permanent makeup. But after you get up and see your results you may feel a bit shocked as your makeup is bold, bright, and may look a bit harsh. Don’t panic, as these results don’t last. As your body heals, the pigment will fade by a few shades within a week, and you can expect a reduction of your results by a good 50 percent. Once everything is all faded, your results will look natural and you will surely feel confident.

Investing in permanent makeup will help change your entire look for the better and help you put your best face forward. With this information on hand, you’ll be on your way to investing in yourself and your appearance.
